Self Defence

In addition to our Aikido classes, we also offer Short Self-Defence Courses. These can be last between one and five-days, depending on content.

These short courses are designed to teach delegates emergency skills for emergency situations but they in are in no way a substitute for regular self-defence training.

The courses are split into theory and practical elements.

Theory - Delegates learn how to reduce the risk of becoming involved in a violent incident

Practical - Delegates learn techniques which can be used to defend themselves when their personal safety would otherwise be at risk.

Our courses are suitable for both men and women.

The physical intervention techniques taught on this course are designed so that delegates can escape from a violent situation, whilst keeping within the law.

Course content includes:

  • Threat awareness - spotting the danger signs;
  • Assessing risk;
  • Preventing aggression;
  • Common attack scenarios, and strategies used by attackers;
  • Fighting back when necessary – the realities;
  • The law as it relates to self-defence;
  • Areas of the body most susceptible to attack;
  • Mental conditioning;
  • Fear and adrenalin control;
  • Pre-emptive striking;
  • Use of everyday objects in self-defence;
  • Use of the body’s natural weapons in self-defence;
  • Defences against common physical attacks;
  • Defences against common weapon attacks;
  • Defending yourself from the floor;
  • Precautions for everyday situations.
...however course content can be varied to meet the specific needs of our delegates.

Qualified and Experienced Trainers

All short self-defence courses are currently taught by John Carpenter.

John was a doorman for 4 years and was Head doorman for two of those at Turpins Nightclub in Southampton. During this time John built up a working knowledge of how to deal with aggressive people in a safe and professional manner.
