2009 Aikido World Championships - Kyoto, Japan

After another two years of preparation and training I have again been selected to represent Great Britain as part of the 2009 British Aikido Association National Team.  The 2009 Aikido World Championships will be held in Kyoto, Japan next month and will last for 4 days with over 800 competitors from 7 countries taking part.  I will represent Great Britain in the Men’s individual Tanto, 5 Man Team Tanto and the Kongo Dantaisen which is a mixed event with 6 other competitors.
I have represented Great Britain on 2 previous occasions and in 2007 was selected as the Team Captain, won Silver in the Men’s 5 Man Team Tanto and Bronze in the Men’s’ Toshu event.  My goal is to win a Gold medal this time since I intend to retire from International Aikido after this event and concentrate on being a referee for future events.
Like many other amateur sports people I have to raise the money myself. In total entry fees, accommodation and flights will be approx £1200. I have recently received a grant of £250 from Eastleigh Borough Council which has brought my total £750. If you would like to make a donation please click on the button below. Please make sure that you include your email address so that I can update you.
